Sign up to review authorizations via the Health Net Federal Service website. You can review authorizations online and sign up to receive text messages or email once your referral is authorized by HNFS. In addition, you can check the status of your referral authorization and have your authorization mailed to you by calling HNFS at 844-866-9378. If you are requesting authorization in mail you must call HNFS to request.

You do not have to wait for the specialist to contact you. To contact the specialist go online to www.tricare-west.com to view your authorization letter. The authorization letter will have the location, specialty and the contact information for the Network Provider.

Please contact Health Net Federal Service at 844-866-9378 to re-send your authorization letter to the Network Provider.

If you require ongoing care from your network specialist and your referral dates have expired, please contact your primary care manager to request a Continuation of Care referral via Secure Messaging on TRICARE Online or by calling 530-634-2941.To better assist with this process please:

The specialist may request additional office visits, procedures, tests, or injections through Health Net Federal Service. If your specialist is requiring additional information or “codes” then please have the specialist contact the Referral Management Center at: 530-634-3542.

ED: Active duty personnel and non-active duty personnel beneficiaries do not require a referral  
UC: Active duty personnel: Yes; on-active duty personnel: No

During duty hours, please call the appointment line for a referral. After hours, please contact the Nurse Advice Line at: 800-874-2273 (TRICARE).

You are choosing the Point of Service option, in which you may be liable for a portion of the bill.

Yes. Your referral will expire after 180 days. You will need to see your primary care manager to obtain a new referral authorization before seeing a Network Provider.

Yes. All other insurances are primary, you may not receive authorization for care. Please follow the rules of your primary insurance. The referral process does not apply to Medicare patients or those needing preventative mammograms. All 3D mammograms need prior-authorization.
